[AP] CHICAGO - In a stunning and unprecidented media event held early this morning, at the Motel Six near O'Hare International Airport, a virtually unknown American Heathen, declared herself to be the new American Allshergythia, or "High Papess" of the United States Asatruar. Says Kate von Nohl, "Hey, the Germans are doing it, this is America, we're number one ! Besides, who will stop me ? The Americans ? I don't think so. From here on in, whenever th e mass and Pagan media needs to hear thoughts about Heathenism, they are to come to me first. You are all now to call me, 'Mommy', everyone does."
Apparently, Ms. von Nohl was formally made Allshergythia in a private ceremony held in her own backyard, celebrants included a Druid from Nebraska, an Egyptian reconstuctionalist, and her next door neighbor Javier Gonzales, who is struggling to learn English as a second language.
Ms. von Nohl's husband who passed out rubber Hagar the Horrible helmuts with horns, and plastic meadhorns at the conference room doors, when asked to comment had this to say, "Who me ?" When pressed further, he admits, "I just thought she was in the other room making dinner."
Other Heathen's in the area were contacted and asked for comment, and all refused, fearing reprisals including shunning from the community, and no more funny bumper stickers.
